Leader: John Wright

Objectives: As the name implies, the group is interested in exploring Britain's industrial heritage both in the historic sense, but also in terms of current industry - our heritage of the future.

We are a self-help group and all members are encouraged to actively participate in the group's activities by:

  •  Attending Planning Meetings (these are 4 times/year & attendance is very important). Meetings usually include a talk by a member of the group or an outside speaker.

  •  Actively seeking out sites of interest, lectures to attend etc.

  • Sharing the load in organizing visits to sites, lectures etc.

  •  Actively seeking out topics/speakers for planning meeting talks.

It is not essential to have a technical background, to fully participate in this group. Many of the current members have an engineering, scientific or technical background and are always keen to help out with information. However we all try to contribute something to the group.

It should be noted that on occasion we have been provided with and been required to don hard hats, overalls etc.

Previous activities have included visits to a Sewage pumping station, the Wadesmill A10 bypass, the Technical Welding Institute, a Power Station fuelled by , “chicken litter”,  the Channel Tunnel Rail Link project, a tidal mill and the Faraday lecture in London.
Previous talks
included: Water and windmills, history of dental mechanics, radio valves and riveting.
