Leader : June Crew

Aims:
To become more aware of the natural environment, to improve observation skills and to enjoy the company of like-minded people. Any records kept of plants and animals seen could be potentially useful in local planning issues.

This is not a formal group.  Anyone in the Lea Valley U3A is welcome to come to any outing. A general invitation is issued through the monthly news sheet. No expertise is necessary but it would be welcomed.

The rambles are usually one a month; often on a Friday but not always. These rambles are stop-go affairs, so if it's a bracing walk you want - forget it! Distance covered is anywhere between one and four miles and walks last about three hours.

Venues are in Herts and Essex and include nature reserves, the Lee Valley Park, woods and wetlands. Activities include badger watching, pond dipping, glow-worm spotting, bird watching,  orchid hunting and fungus forays. A bluebell walk and a visit to the best site in the country for the pasque flower is usually on the agenda.

The walks are not strenuous but people should dress sensibly, wear good walking shoes or walking boots and bring rainwear.  A good bladder or no inhibitions is recommended! Other things you may find useful are iron rations, a drink, a first aid kit, field guides, a notebook, pencil, binoculars, a magnifying lens, a camera and a map.
