The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement exists to promote lifelong learning for those no longer in full-time gainful employment, (i.e. the retired and semi-retired).

The Lea Valley Group (LVU3A) covers the Borough of Broxbourne in East Hertfordshire and surrounding areas. The main group meets on the second Monday of the month, at the Civic Hall, in Hoddesdon, at the southern end of the High St.  Members are invited to arrive from 13.00hrs. onwards to sign in and visit sub-group tables etc. The main subject talk for the month will begin at 14.00hrs.

LVU3A has over 40 subject groups ranging from "Antiques and Collectables", to "Reading for Pleasure", "Nature Rambles" and "Pub Lunches". Depending on the number of members, individual subject groups meet in various locations in the borough, ranging from private homes to small or larger meeting rooms.

Annual Membership of the Lea Valley Group of the U3A costs £13.
